Angie Sinclair Fine Art
Born in California, At very young age relocated to the vibrant heart of New York during my formative years. Immersed in the cultural tapestry of the metropolis, my early days were marked by frequent visits to the Metropolitan Museum, where I lingered among the Impressionist masters, observing their incredible usage of light and color. My childhood was joy filled with artistic inspiration, nurtured by the creative influence of my mother—a fashion designer store owner in Manhattan. The experience of the people I met and designing our own clothing was a gift that I cherish.
From a young age, I exhibited an affinity for drawing people, with pencils and sketchbooks as my constant companions. My love for capturing the human form found further evolution through my educational pursuits at the School of Visual Arts. However, my artistic journey was largely self-directed, as I forged my unique style through exploration and practice, rather than formal instruction.
My artistic voyage led me to intertwine my interests in fashion and art. Working in my mother's boutique, I crafted clothing from antique materials, my designs creating an aesthetic dialogue between past and present. The experimentation with mixing patterns and textures in fashion reflected the techniques I would later apply to my paintings—especially my large oil canvases, which depict figures with skin dappled by water's hypnotic reflections.
Water became a serene muse that permeated my work, serving as both subject and inspiration. It started with painting my children, who were swimmers, and led to my fascination with the interplay of light across water's surface. My creative process exudes freedom, as I employ loose brushstrokes to convey the tranquility of aquatic environments, blending reality with impressionist leanings.
Residing in Wilmington since 2005, I have immersed myself in the local art scene, becoming an integral part of the creative community. My paintings are featured in numerous galleries across beachside locales, many of my figurative work has been in various exhibition, galleries and museums over the years .An upcoming show in Miami at art basel in Dec.2026 promises to continue cementing my reputation, while my works are also available on online platforms like Saatchi.
I am one of the artist represented by New Elements Gallery on Front Street Wilmington NC .On every fourth Friday there is a show hopefully you can get a chance to see one of my paintings.
My technique, honed over two decades, is distinguished by its soothing color palettes and the subtle, almost tattoo-like interplay of light on the skin of my subjects. My art has been described as mesmerizing and peaceful, qualities that echo the values I find in my community in Porters Neck. My paintings, which populate homes throughout Wilmington, Charleston, and beyond, infuse personal spaces with beauty and inspiration.
Complementing my artistic ventures, I enjoy staying active, cherishing travel, and spending cherished moments with Family and friends. I find joy in witnessing my artworks becoming cherished parts of others' lives, fueling my dedication to continue painting and sharing my vision.
Water has become a serene muse that flows through my work, serving not just as a subject, but a profound source of inspiration. Initially sparked by painting my children, who were avid swimmers, my fascination grew with the interplay of light on water's surface. Living by the ocean has deeply inspired my artistic vision, where I take my models on our boat to sandbars, capturing moments that embody the soul of coastal life. This proximity to the sea continuously fuels my creativity, as loose brushstrokes convey the tranquility of aquatic environments, blending realism with impressionist tendencies.
